A great in-depth WIRED look at Ant-Man and the Warp including some rarely seen before and after shots of the de-aging process used widely across the Marvel universe, (normally by Lola VFX).

Danielle Costa, vice president of visual effects for Marvel Studios, since the first Thor film, explains the complex visual effects. In this film, the VFX cover the full range of techniques from advanced composting to fully CG worlds.

DNEG was the lead facility on the film. Most of DNEG’s work was done by their Vancouver studio. As lead VFX vendor on Ant-Man and the Wasp their work included:

Development of signature FX looks for hero characters and events
Character animation
Environment work
The full range of VFX mayhem required for the size-shifting car chase through San Francisco
The complex finale fight sequence between The Wasp and The Ghost

DNEG worked on over 500 shots including the third act chase sequence and the final Ghost fight as Hank and Janet are coming back from the Quantum Realm. Lola once again delivered some incredible de-aging scenes, while Method handled the 3D Quantum Realm and Luma did the rocket launch and the Ghost break-in. Several other companies such as ILM, ScanlineVFX and others also contributed. (See our original fxguide story: A Bug’s Wife here).
