Description:

In today’s tutorial, I’m going to show you how to create a simple black hole effect in Unreal Engine 5 using Niagara. We’ll simulate particles being sucked into the black hole when a character enters its range. The effect is basic but can be enhanced with your own elements to make it visually compelling. Let’s dive in and start creating this cool effect!

Key Points:

  • Basic Setup:
    • Used a simple particle system for the black hole effect.
    • Changed the material to additive and black to create the black hole look.
  • Character Interaction:
    • Set up particles to emit from the character when they enter the range of the black hole.
    • Used range logic to control when particles spawn, making the effect dynamic and responsive to the player’s movement.
  • Creating the Black Hole Range:
    • Created a red sphere to visualize the black hole’s range.
    • Adjusted the spawn rate of particles based on the player’s position relative to the black hole.
  • Particle Attraction:
    • Used the Spring and Attractor modules to pull the particles toward the black hole’s center.
    • Used the kill volume to delete particles when they are close to the black hole.
  • Enhancements and Effects:
    • Added curl noise, adjusted particle sizes, and applied a translating material for the particles.
    • Added brightness and fading effects to the particles.
  • Advanced Features:
    • Applied heat distortion to enhance the visual impact of the black hole.
    • Included other effects like particle size scaling, velocity alignment, and additional particle types for more dynamic visuals.

Additional Notes:

  • You can use this black hole effect as a base and add other visual elements, such as lighting or textures, to make it more attractive and immersive for your game.
  • Experiment with different materials and particle behaviors to customize this effect according to your project’s needs.
