Creating the Material:

Let’s start by creating a material for this effect. While there are many ways to do it, I’ll be using a sprite card rather than a mesh.

  1. Creating the Radial Sprite:
    • Start by adding a radial sprite.
    • Set the density to around 5 or 20, and reduce the radius to 0.4 for a sharper look.
  2. Cutting the Radial:
    • Copy the radial and set its density to 5 (or adjust as necessary).
    • Use a subtract operation to cut from the original radial.
  3. Adjusting the Shape:
    • Set the center position with values like 0.5 and 0.5 (default) and adjust the X position to 0 for better placement.
    • Set the radius to about 0.4 and adjust it further to get the desired shape.

Creating Parameters for the Material:

  1. Add parameters for Radius 1 (R1), Density 1 (D1), and Center Position.
  2. Adjust the parameters for better control by using Vector4 for center position and mask to get the correct vector2.
  3. Adjust the values for Radius 2 (R2) and Density 2 (D2) as needed.

Adding Texture:

  1. Use a texture (like the aura texture) to add effects:
    • Use Texture Coordinates to manipulate the texture and apply tiling.
    • Multiply the texture coordinates by Tiling X and Tiling Y.
  2. Add Panning:
    • Use Panning with values like X = 1 and Y = 0 for movement.

Final Touches:

  • Apply a Saturate node and adjust values to fine-tune the effect.
  • You can use Smooth Step to create soft edges for the effect.
  • You may also multiply the texture values to adjust the intensity.

Creating the Niagara Effect:

  1. Creating a Particle System:
    • In Niagara, spawn just one particle and set it to Live Forever for continuous effect.
    • Set a size and no random rotation to maintain consistency.
    • Adjust the particle color to something like yellowish to create the glowing effect.
  2. Custom Alignment:
    • Set Custom Alignment with a mesh orientation. Align the sprite on the X-axis and rotate it by 90 degrees to ensure it faces correctly.
  3. Creating Layers:
    • Duplicate the system for multiple layers, adjusting radius, density, and tiling for each layer.
    • For each layer, adjust the speed and size to create a depth of effect.
    • You can use different colors like orange, red, or black for varying layers.

Final Adjustments:

  • Tweak the tiling, density, and panning to achieve the desired visual.
  • You can also adjust the minimum and maximum values for more dynamic results.

Additional Effects:

  • Add a velocity to one of the layers, making it move along the Y-axis with a value like 20.
  • Use fade-out to make particles gradually disappear over time, creating a smooth transition effect.

Conclusion:

And that’s it! You’ve now created a multi-layered, dynamic Ladyfing effect using Niagara in Unreal Engine 5.

Thanks for watching! Keep experimenting with these effects and have fun with your VFX creations!
