Description:

In this video, I demonstrate how to create a blood material in Unreal Engine 5.2, perfect for use in various games or as a decal on surfaces. We’ll walk through the process of using textures and material functions to achieve a dynamic, fluid-like effect with noise, normal maps, and specular properties.

Key Points:

  • Creating the Base Material: Start by creating a material with a noise texture, using a texture sampler and panning the texture in various directions.
  • Using Functions for Randomness: Utilize the Chaos function to create randomness in texture movement, reducing the need for excessive nodes.
  • Adding Motion: Control the direction and speed of the noise using parameters like speed and divisor to create fluid, moving effects.
  • Sharpness and Fluidity Control: Use the smooth step function to adjust sharpness and fluidity of the effect with customizable parameters.
  • Adding Color and Masking: Mask the material with a red channel to add color, and use a mask material to give the blood a more realistic look.
  • Normal and Specular Effects: Integrate normal maps to add depth and specular highlights for a more lifelike appearance.
  • Adjusting the Bump Offset: Apply bump offset to create a sense of depth and alter the texture’s appearance as the camera moves.
  • Fine-Tuning the Material: Adjust various parameters to control the intensity and sharpness of the material, along with adding fake specular highlights.

Additional Notes:

  • This technique is useful for creating a realistic blood effect that can be applied as a decal or texture in games.
  • You can experiment with different noise textures to achieve various blood appearances, such as red or blue hues.
