Video Title:
Creating Card Morph Effect in Niagara – Unreal Engine Tutorial

Video Description:
Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali, and you’re watching CGHOW. Today, I found a cool card morph effect on Twitter, created in Blender. I instantly liked it and decided to recreate it using Niagara in Unreal Engine. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to write one letter in the effect, but you can apply the same technique to any letter or object. Let’s dive in!

Before we begin:

Tutorial Breakdown:

  1. Setting Up the Project:
    • Starting with an empty UE4.27 project, I import a texture for the card design (just for learning purposes).
    • I use Maya to create the card shape (a “C” shape in this case) and then export it to Unreal Engine.
  2. Creating the Card Material:
    • I create a simple material with the card texture. You can adjust the material to give it both sides for front and back if needed.
    • The texture is adjusted using a non-uniform scale.
  3. Creating the Niagara Effect:
    • In Niagara, I create a fountain effect to mimic the card stack.
    • I use sprite render initially, which can later be swapped for mesh if you want more thickness.
  4. Configuring the Particles:
    • I align the particles to form a stack that later morphs into the letter “C”.
    • The particles are manipulated with custom alignment and facing vectors.
  5. Creating the C Shape with Particles:
    • I adjust the emitter’s spawn settings to form the shape and control the movement of the stack of particles.
    • I set up a transition to animate the stack into the “C” shape.
  6. Adding Random Rotation:
    • Particles are randomly rotated to give the morph effect more dynamic movement.
  7. Fixing Particle Intersections:
    • To prevent particles from intersecting, I add an offset to their position, and also introduce a user parameter for better control.
  8. Adding Final Touches:
    • The particles transition smoothly from the stack to the “C” shape, and adjustments are made to particle speed, rotation, and randomization.
    • I add further details to control the randomization of particle colors and shapes.
  9. Bonus – Writing Letters:
    • I briefly touch on how you can apply this technique to any letter, not just “C”. The process is fully customizable.

Key Points:

  • Texture Setup: Import textures and create materials.
  • Niagara Setup: Create a fountain emitter and manipulate particles for shape formation.
  • Stack to Morph Transition: Move particles to form the desired letter or shape.
  • Randomization: Add random rotation and movement for more dynamic effects.
  • Performance Considerations: Fix particle intersections by adjusting spawn positions.

Additional Notes:
This is a beginner-friendly tutorial, but you can easily apply this technique to more complex projects. If you’d like to see more advanced variations of this effect or have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below!
