Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali and you’re watching CGHOW! In today’s video, I created this custom velocity effect using UE5 Niagara. Tutorial Breakdown:

  1. Initial Setup:
    • Start with a basic Niagara system (Fountain test).
    • Delete default modules (velocity, location) to clear the workspace.
    • Use a sphere location for particle spawn (radius set to 0).
    • Set velocity to a default value (1000, 1000) to move the particles at the same speed.
  2. Creating the Spin Module:
    • The goal is to rotate particles while keeping them in a fixed sphere location.
    • Create a custom spin module that works by multiplying particle position with quaternion values for smooth rotation.
    • You can control the rotation on specific axes (in this case, rotation is done around the Z-axis).
    • Use a curve to control the rotation speed dynamically.
    • Set it to multiply with the vector for final positioning.
  3. Customization:
    • Use random values for the spin multiplier to create variation in particle movement.
    • Enable GPU emitter for performance optimization.
    • You can adjust particle size, lifespan, and spawn rate to fit the desired effect.
    • Add thickness by manipulating the Y-axis multiplier to make the effect 3D.
  4. Adding Trails:
    • Create a new emitter for particle trails.
    • Decrease spawn rate and adjust particle life for a more natural trail effect.
    • Adjust color for aesthetic purposes (make it yellow or reddish).
    • Control the thickness of the trails to add more realism.
  5. Fine-Tuning the Heart Shape:
    • Adjust values for more precise heart-shaped movement.
    • Use curves for dynamic changes in the particles’ speed and rotation.
    • By multiplying and adjusting these parameters, you can fine-tune the shape until it resembles a heart pattern.
  6. Final Adjustments:
    • After setting up the particle system, tweak values for things like spawn rate, color, and lifetime to match the original effect.
    • The final result should be a dynamic heart-shaped particle movement with customizable thickness and color.
