hi guys today I have created this basic flower effect in ue4 Niagara. I made some variations of it also and this video is a step-by-step tutorial.

Intro:
- “Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali and you’re watching CGHOW. In today’s video, I’ll show you how I created this basic flower effect using a basic material. Let’s get started!”
- “Before we begin, make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and click on the bell icon so you get notified whenever I post new videos.”
Creating the Material:
- Material Setup:
- “I have an empty project here, and the first thing we’ll do is create a new material named
M_Pattern.” - “For now, I’ll start with a radial exponent and experiment with the settings.”
- “By adjusting the density, we can control how sharp the effect looks. For example, increasing the density to 50 or 60 sharpens the pattern.”
- “I can also distort the UVs using a texture. I’ll import a texture from Photoshop and use it for distortion.”
- “I have an empty project here, and the first thing we’ll do is create a new material named
- Edge Effect:
- “To create just the edge, subtract one radial from another and adjust the radius. This will help form the outline or edge of the flower.”
- “We can also use a three-color blend to achieve an edge effect. By setting red and blue to black and green to white, we get a green outline.”
- Opacity and Color Adjustments:
- “To make the edges sharp, we can multiply the alpha value by a higher number. This sharpens the transition.”
- “Next, I’ll modify the texture in Photoshop to create a noise texture. I’ll use Gaussian blur and smudge tools to make the texture tileable.”
- “Once the texture is ready, I’ll save it as a
.tgafile and import it into Unreal Engine.”
Applying the Texture and Distorting:
- Texture Setup in Material:
- “In Unreal, I’ll add a texture coordinate and multiply it by the texture to control the tiling. I can use the fractional function to ensure it repeats correctly.”
- “To distort the texture radially, I’ll use texture coordinates and apply parameters like
distortto control the strength of the effect.” - “By using append nodes, I can separate the X and Y axes for more control over the distortion direction.”
- Using UV Distortion:
- “After adjusting the distortion, I’ll apply it to both axes and make the effect radiate outward from the center.”
- “This will create a more complex radial pattern where I can control the distortion for both the X and Y axes separately.”
Creating the Particle System:
- Particle Setup:
- “Now, let’s create a particle system and apply the material we just made.”
- “I’ll use the fountain effect and adjust the size and gravity to get a nice stylized smoke effect.”
- “To control the particle layering, I can set sorting to either descending or ascending, depending on whether I want new particles to appear in front or behind the others.”
- Using Particle Color:
- “We can also add dynamic parameters to control the particle color over time. I’ll make the edge color change dynamically, using a parameter to adjust its brightness or darkness.”
- “By tweaking the colors and using particle curves, I can make the flower’s petals gradually change color.”
Final Adjustments and Variations:
- Creating Variations:
- “To create more variations, I’ll duplicate the particle system and change some of the parameters, like size, color, and the material applied.”
- “In the third variation, I’ll use a black body temperature effect for a more dramatic look.”
- “In the fourth variation, I’ll adjust the spawn rate and use a torus shape for more symmetry.”
- Rotation and Color Adjustments:
- “I’ll apply random rotation offsets and use hue shifts to change the color of each layer, giving it a more dynamic and colorful appearance.”
Conclusion:
- “So that’s how you can create a basic flower effect using materials and particle systems in Unreal Engine. We covered how to make variations, apply color changes, and distort textures for a cool flower effect.”
- “Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to subscribe to CGHOW for more tutorials like this. Keep learning, and see you next time!”
