Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali, and you’re watching CGHOW! In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how I created this Halloween effect in Unreal Engine 5.3 using Niagara. You can find this project file on my Patreon, as usual. Let’s dive into the process!

Steps Covered in the Tutorial:

  1. Creating Materials:
    • Using AI-generated images of pumpkins and masks to create materials for the cute and monster pumpkins.
    • Applying alpha and unlit materials for transparency.
  2. Particle Effects:
    • Spawning and scaling the cute pumpkin using Niagara’s particle system.
    • Transitioning to a monster pumpkin with a delay and scale effect.
    • Tweaking particle life and scaling curves.
  3. Adding Color Effects:
    • Modifying the pumpkin’s eyes to glow red using masks and multiplying with particle colors.
    • Adding glow and jitter effects to the eyes for extra realism.
    • Darkening the pumpkin’s mouth area using a blue channel mask and fine-tuning the color.
  4. Creating Teeth Effects:
    • Customizing the teeth to be red and white by modifying the green channel in the texture.
    • Applying a dynamic color effect to make the teeth look more realistic.
  5. Background Effects:
    • Creating a background energy effect with a dynamic material that controls tiling, pan speed, and density.
    • Using a radial texture for the energy effect and adding a custom curve for intensity.
  6. Final Touches:
    • Adding a dark energy particle effect with velocity, life, and spawn rate adjustments.
    • Enhancing the scene with glowing outlines for the pumpkin and eyes.
    • Adjusting glow intensity and particle emission for dramatic effect.
