UE5 | Icicle FX in Unreal Engine 5.3 Niagara Tutorial
Video Description: In today’s video, I’ll be showing you how I created a stunning icicle effect using Unreal Engine 5.3’s Niagara system. You can find all the project files on my Patreon, as usual. Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and hit the bell icon to receive notifications for all new videos.
Key Steps in the Tutorial:
- Download and Import Model: We start by importing a model from TurboSquid. This model will serve as the base for the icicle effect.
- Particle Setup: A mesh is created, and the particle system is set up to spawn once. We use a static mesh and remove any unnecessary physics settings.
- Material Creation: Learn how to create an icy material using textures for realistic transparency and refraction effects.
- Character Interaction: A special interaction is added so that when the character collides with the ice, we get an effect (using a ‘distance fade’ technique).
- Depth and Bump Mapping: I show you how to add more depth to the material with bump mapping and dynamic parameters.
- Mist and Particle Effects: We go over adding mist particles and fine-tuning their motion, along with adding subtle particle effects like curl noise and opacity control.
- Optimization: Various tips for optimizing the effect and making it visually appealing.
