Title: Creating a “League of Legends” Basic Attack Effect in UE5 Niagara
Introduction:
Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali, and you’re watching CGHOW. Today, I’ll be showing you how to create a basic attack effect from League of Legends using Unreal Engine 5 Niagara. If you haven’t subscribed yet, please hit the subscribe button and like, share, and comment if you find this tutorial helpful. Let’s dive right into it!
Step-by-Step Breakdown:
- Animation Setup:
- I found a reference animation from mxaml.com and used a melee attack with a sword. The animation will have a fast and slow motion, reversing the attack direction.
- Using an animation tool, I composite and adjust the animation speed.
- Setting up the Flash and Trail Effects:
- Flash Effect: I start by adding a light source for a basic flash on the character’s hand and duplicate it to create a brighter flash effect.
- Trail Effect: Using Niagara, I create a ribbon trail from the character’s hand and tweak it by adjusting the particle size, speed, and colors. I use a tube particle to visualize the trail, which is scaled down to match the black and yellow parts of the original reference.
- Material Creation:
- I design materials for the trail and flash effects. The trail consists of a black base layer with a yellow glowing outer layer, using particle colors for dynamic effects.
- Shader Tweaks: I use multiplier and opacity power to get the desired fade effects for the trail and flash. The glow ring uses additive materials to create brightness.
- Final Adjustments and Adding More Effects:
- I scale the flash and add a ring around the glow to match the reference effect. The core flashes are adjusted to match the scale and intensity, ensuring they look impactful.
- The velocity and randomization of the sparks are tweaked to create a more dynamic impact for the effect when the attack is executed.
Key Points to Remember:
- Animation: Use fast and slow-motion adjustments to create impactful attack animations.
- Materials: Customize material settings for different trail and flash effects (e.g., use additive blend mode for glow effects).
- Niagara Effects: Use ribbon particles for trails and sprite particles for flashes, with adjustments to size and speed.
- Lighting: Adjust light intensity for the flash effects to make them stand out during the attack.
