Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali, and you’re watching CGHOW.
In today’s video, I’m going to create this stylized orb effect in Unreal Engine 5.1. Let’s dive right into the tutorial!

Before we start, don’t forget to subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon to get notifications for all new videos.

Creating the Stylized Orb

To begin, we need to set up a Niagara system. Let’s create a new Niagara system and use a Fountain FX. Open the preview window and drag it into the scene. We’ll start by removing the velocity and gravity settings, then set the spawn rate to 5.

Now, let’s adjust the particle size to increase over its lifetime. I’ll tweak the size a bit to make the particles larger.

Color and Size Adjustments

For the first particle, I’ll choose a heavy orange-yellowish color. I’ll keep the size relatively stable without much randomness. For the second one, I’ll copy the first particle and make its color a little reddish and size larger, around 70-80. I’ll also reduce the alpha to give it a glow effect.

I’ll shorten the life of the first particle to make the glow flicker a bit.

Creating a Mesh for the Orb

Next, let’s create a material for the orb. You can use a sphere mesh or any other mesh you prefer. For this tutorial, I’ll use a sphere and take the texture coordinate. We’ll apply a mask and adjust the gradient using the sign node.

I’ll change the sign to 2 for a bi-directional gradient. Then, using a step node, I’ll fine-tune the dissolve effect. By adjusting the values, we get a nice outer ring with a glowing inner core.

Further Refining the Material

Now I’ll use the green channel for a strip effect. I want to cut the material in half, so I’ll tweak the values for the red channel and reapply the mask.

You can also use noise textures to add detail around the orb. I’ll tile it at 3×3 to get a better look.

Finalizing the Material

I’ll adjust the power values to control how the orb fades, then connect it to the opacity. We can increase the opacity to get some variation on the edges of the orb.

Adding Noise for Detail

Next, I want to add more noise detail around the edge. Using a Lerp (Linear Interpolation) node, I’ll set the inner part to white (lighter) and the outer part to a darker shade. I’ll multiply this with the particle color to achieve a more defined outer glow.

You can further tweak the appearance by randomizing the tiling and opacity for added variation.

Adjusting the Mesh and Emitter

Once we have the material set, let’s add a mesh emitter and apply the material. I’ll use mesh orientation to randomize the direction and adjust the particle size and width.

Next, I’ll fine-tune the burst size and use a randomized spawn rate for more dynamic effects.

Final Adjustments

The particles may appear flat, so I’ll multiply the vertex normal with the noise to add some depth to the effect. After adjusting the values, I’ll apply the changes, and the result will be a more dynamic and glowing orb effect.

You can also add camera settings to control the zoom and angles for a better view of the orb’s effect.

Conclusion

And that’s it! We’ve created a stylized orb effect in Unreal Engine 5.1 with Niagara. There are a lot of different ways to approach this, but I hope you found this tutorial helpful. Keep experimenting and learning!

Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and I’ll see you in the next video. Bye!
