Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali and you’re watching CGHOW! In today’s video, I’ll show you how to create a detailed poison effect featuring a curling skull that dissolves over time. I’ll take you through all the steps, from material setup to particle effects in Unreal Engine. If you haven’t already, make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel, and if you like the video, don’t forget to like, share, and comment! Let’s dive into this tutorial!”

Tutorial Breakdown:

  1. Material Setup:
    • Creating Smoke Material: Start with a simple noise texture for smoke. Use radial exponent multiply for density and tiling adjustments.
    • Color & Opacity: Adjust opacity, apply fade effect, and randomize the color to create variations in the green and yellow hues of the smoke.
    • Final Tuning: Customize the material properties to match the look you’re going for, such as changing density and color saturation.
  2. Niagara Particle Effects:
    • Creating Smoke Ring and Burst: Use Niagara to create a burst of smoke with adjustable parameters like size, density, and drag. Ensure that the smoke has a fading effect for realism.
    • Skull Mesh and Dissolution Effect: Import a skull mesh and apply a color blending technique. Use a texture to simulate the erosion effect on the skull, adjusting for green and yellow edges.
    • Adding Velocity and Life Cycle: Apply a velocity parameter to give motion to the particles. Set life cycles for particles to match the poison effect, ensuring particles rise and fade at the right times.
  3. Creating Bubbles:
    • Adding Bubbles to Effect: Duplicate the skull material for the bubbles and adjust it to make it translucent. Implement a dynamic fade to make the bubbles appear to “pop” as they dissolve.
    • Final Adjustments: Use a random velocity to make the bubbles behave naturally, with random scaling and tilt.
  4. Enhancements and Final Tweaks:
    • Fine-Tuning the Effect: Add jitter to the skull material for a more organic, vibrating look. Adjust the transition rates for a smooth fade from solid to dissolved.
    • Testing and Debugging: Adjust textures, contrasts, and opacity to ensure the skull and bubbles look good in motion. Fine-tune values to achieve the right balance between color vibrancy and transparency.

Key Points:

  • Material Creation:
    • Noise texture for smoke effect
    • Radial exponent and dynamic parameters for material adjustments
    • Color variation and opacity masks for realistic dissolving
  • Niagara Effects:
    • Particle burst for initial smoke ring
    • Skull mesh with dissolve effect using texture manipulation
    • Velocity and size adjustments for realism
  • Bubbles and Final Touches:
    • Create bubbles with dynamic fading
    • Random velocity and scale for organic movement
