“Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali and you’re watching CGHOW! Today, I’m going to show you how I created this League of Legends-inspired shield effect in Unreal Engine 5 using Niagara. It’s a simple effect, but it looks great! If you haven’t subscribed to my YouTube channel yet, make sure to subscribe, like, share, and comment if you enjoyed the video. Now, let’s get started!”

Opening:

  • “First, don’t forget to subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon to get notified about all my new videos.”

Introduction to the Effect:

  • “In this tutorial, we’re going to create a shield effect inspired by a design I saw from Johan Dart’s League of Legends shields. I really liked it and thought it would make a great tutorial.”

Setting Up the Scene:

  • “Let’s start by creating a new map and adding basic lighting using Ctrl + L.”
  • “Next, we’ll scale the mesh and adjust it a bit.”
  • “Let’s save this setup and move on.”
  • “Now, we need a character. I’ll go with this one.”
  • “I’ll position it at the center, at zero, so everything aligns properly.”

Creating the Shield Effect:

  • “Now, let’s move on to the effects. We’ll create a ring that pops up. Initially, it’ll be black and then fade into blue.”
  • “I’ll use a radial vector and adjust the density to make it sharper around the edges.”
  • “I’m using my favorite texture for this — the aura texture. I’ll tweak the size and adjust the texture until we get the desired result.”

Adding Motion and Dissolving Effect:

  • “Next, let’s add a dissolve effect. We’ll increase the size, adjust the opacity, and use a dynamic parameter for extra control.”
  • “I’ll adjust the color curve to make the ring blue and the alpha fade out as the effect progresses.”

Fine-Tuning the Animation:

  • “Now let’s work on the size and speed of the animation. We’ll make it appear, expand, and then fade out.”
  • “I’ll also adjust the rotation speed and use a random value to make the animation more dynamic.”

Adding Star Particles:

  • “For the stars, I’ll create a separate material and use noise for color variation. I’ll adjust the density and add some randomization to the movement for a more natural effect.”

Final Tweaks and Light Adjustments:

  • “Let’s make some final tweaks to the light and scene to improve the effect’s visibility.”
  • “I’ll adjust the point light intensity and use a post-processing effect to finalize the look.”

“Thanks for watching! Keep learning and stay creative!”
