Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali, and welcome to CGHOW!
In today’s video, we’ll be decorating a shield effect in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) from scratch. I’ll break down each step for better understanding, and if you haven’t subscribed to my channel yet, please subscribe, like, share, and comment if you enjoy the video. Let’s dive into the tutorial!

Key Steps in Creating the Shield Effect:

  1. Material Creation
    • Start by creating a material using noise textures to add dynamic elements.
    • Adjust UVs and scale for better previewing.
  2. Shader Setup
    • Use a “Burn Color” technique to get the desired effect, tweaking values for visibility.
  3. Niagara Effects
    • Implement a Niagara system to manage particles, colors, and opacity.
    • Experiment with facing directions using “Camera Position” to ensure the effect aligns properly.
  4. Opacity Control
    • Use material instances to manage opacity and transparency for more control over the visual effects.
  5. Fine-Tuning the Visuals
    • Adjust particle behaviors and mesh settings to ensure smooth, bright edges.
    • Incorporate random rotation for particle motion.
  6. Refinement and Color Adjustments
    • Add color curves for better visual appeal.
    • Use fading and smooth transitions to create a dynamic and evolving effect.
  7. Post-Processing
    • Apply post-processing effects for enhanced brightness and glow.

Final Outcome:

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have a polished, dynamic shield effect using Unreal Engine 5’s materials, Niagara particles, and post-processing techniques.
