Video Start:

“First, let me show you the reference I found on Pinterest. I’ll add the link in the description. I really liked the idea of the spiral followed by a flash, so let’s recreate a similar effect in UE5.”

Starting the Effect:

1. Setting up the Folder: “I have this empty folder called ‘Spiral Burst.’ Here’s the reference image for the effect. Now, I’ll create the basic spiral effect in UE5. In the previous tutorial, I was using UE5 Preview 1, which was buggy. Thankfully, Preview 2 is much more stable.”
2. Creating the Spiral: “I’ll create the spiral effect by adding a source particle rotating around. I’ll start with a simple particle burst and set the particle’s lifetime and size. Next, I’ll add a ‘Rotate Around Point’ module with an adjustable radius. I’ll animate this radius using a curve, so it decreases from 100 to 0.”

Trail Creation:

1. Adding a Trail: “For the trail effect, I’ll remove gravity and velocity, and adjust the spawn rate to 3. Then, I’ll use ‘Spawn Particle from Other Emitter’ to link the trail emitter with the source. Now you can see the trail effect in action.”
2. Adjusting Particle Size and Type: “Let’s increase the particle count and make the effect GPU-based for better performance. I’ll also adjust the size of the trail to fit the look I want. If I disable the sphere location, it should give a more focused trail.”

Material Creation:

1. Creating the Material: “For the material, I’ll reuse a previous one but make a few adjustments. I’ll use a noise texture, combine it with a radial gradient, and set the density to 0.5. After that, I’ll multiply the noise and connect it to the particle color for more vibrant results.”

Adding Color and Effects:

1. Color Adjustments: “Now, I’ll adjust the particle color to go from purple to blue, and tweak the alpha for transparency. Next, I’ll add dynamic parameters for tiling and density. I’ll randomize the tiling to give it a more natural look.”
2. Adding Rotation and Randomization: “I’ll randomize the rotation rate of the particles to create a more dynamic effect.”

Adding the Flash and Sparks:

1. Creating the Flash: “Next, I’ll create the flash effect using a separate particle system. I’ve got a texture I can use for the flash, which will add a burst of brightness. I’ll adjust the spawn rate and size, and randomize the rotation for variety.”
2. Adding Sparks: “I’ll duplicate the trail system and adjust it to create sparks. I’ll make them fly outward, add a random velocity, and adjust the size to match the flash. I’ll also animate the drag for more realism.”

Final Adjustments:

1. Tuning the Parameters: “Let’s tweak the life cycle of the particles to make them look more dynamic, and add a glow effect using a radial module. I’ll also adjust the spawn rate for the glow and ensure it blends well with the other elements.”
2. Post-Processing: “Now, I’ll add a post-process effect to enhance the overall look of the scene. This will make the spiral burst effect more visually striking.”
