I’m using an empty project in Unreal Engine 4.27, and I’ve found a reference image with repeating rings and patterns. While these shapes can be created in Photoshop, today we’ll focus on creating part of the effect in Unreal Engine using materials.

Steps:

1. Creating the Texture: Start by creating a simple black and white texture in Photoshop. This texture will represent the shapes and rings that we’ll later apply in Unreal.
2. Setting Up the Material: Import the texture into Unreal and create a new material. We’ll use a vector to radial node to map the texture, allowing it to form the ring pattern. By adjusting the texture’s UVs and adding some tiling, we can control how the texture repeats.
3. Adjusting the Ring Size: Using the append node and masking the texture channels, we can modify the size of the rings and adjust their visibility.
4. Creating the Ring Effect: After setting up the texture, I show you how to apply a step node to adjust the sharpness of the ring. You can fine-tune the width and opacity as needed.
5. Rotating the Pattern: To add variety, I demonstrate how to rotate the pattern using a custom rotator, allowing you to create different shapes and designs.
6. Creating More Shapes: Using random textures and applying some Photoshop edits, you’ll see how to generate additional ring shapes and animations.

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have a customizable ring effect that you can use in your projects, and you’ll learn how to animate these patterns as well.
