Video Title: Creating a Custom Particle Force Effect in Unreal Engine Niagara

Description: In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a custom particle force using a sphere that disturbs particle velocity with coil noise. This effect features dynamic particle behavior with changing colors and a customizable area of influence. Let’s dive into how I created this cool and unique effect!

Key Points:

  • Emitter Setup: I created a custom emitter with a simple grid of particles. These particles are affected by a sphere that controls their behavior within a specified radius.
    • Particle Size & Grid: I adjusted the particle size and placed them in a grid, which I then scaled to fit my desired effect.
  • Applying Coil Noise: Instead of using basic noise, I used coil noise to distort the particle movement within the defined area, making the particles behave in a more organic and dynamic way.
    • Custom Area for Coil Noise: By using a custom script, I created a mask to apply coil noise only to a specific region controlled by a sphere. The radius and position of the sphere can be adjusted to modify the affected area.
  • Custom Radius Masking: I created a custom float and vector to define the radius and position of the sphere. If particles are inside the radius, their properties remain unaffected, but outside the radius, they are scaled down or removed based on the conditions I set.
    • User Parameters: I made the sphere’s location a user parameter that can be adjusted dynamically in Blueprint, allowing for real-time interaction with the effect.
  • Color Changing with Velocity: The particles change color based on their velocity. As they move, the color shifts, adding a cool visual element to the particle system.
    • Velocity-Based Color: By connecting particle velocity to a color scale, the color of the particles changes depending on their speed and movement within the effect.

Additional Notes:

  • This effect can be used for various in-game scenarios, including magic, sci-fi, or natural environmental effects, where you need particles to respond to a central force or object.
  • The approach can be customized further by tweaking the coil noise or adding additional forces, textures, or colors based on the project’s needs.
