Hi guys, so as you know, Unreal Engine 5 has officially launched. Now, we have new samples like the Lyra game that I already posted about, and this content example for UE5. I’ve downloaded it, and let’s take a look at the new Niagara features in this content.”

Key Points

  1. New Niagara Maps:
    • Previously, there were two maps for Niagara: Particle and Advanced (available till 4.27).
    • Now, there’s a third map: Niagara Fluid.
  2. Niagara Fluid:
    • There are 2D and 3D fluid simulations.
    • Different visual effects like explosions, fire, smoke, water effects, and more.
    • The 3D file includes fluid simulations like liquid, smoke lighting, and collision effects.
    • Fluid Parameters: Vorticity, density, buoyancy, gravity, and more, allowing for detailed control over simulations.
  3. Explosions and Effects:
    • Fire on mesh and camera-facing smoke effects (camera-facing vs. static).
    • Water-related simulations like shallow water, waterfalls, pools, and liquid collisions.
  4. Geometry Collection and Chaos:
    • New Chaos-related features and a Geometry Collection.
    • New fracture types, such as Cluster, Slice, Noise, and others.
    • Cool examples showing shooting, velocity application, and destruction simulations.
  5. IK Rigging:
    • New IK rigged characters in the IK Rig Map, showing how rigging systems work with Niagara.
  6. Legacy Systems:
    • Cascade legacy particles and older systems still present, but not highlighted in this session.
