in this tutorial, I have created a whole volcano scene and animated camera in the level sequencer. I have used 4 Niagara systems, volcano fire smoke, environment smoke, embers for the camera, and birds flying in the background. I have used almost all the elements from my previous tutorials.

Title: Stylized Volcano Effect in UE4.27 Niagara – Tutorial

Introduction:

  • Hi guys, I’m Asif Ali, and you’re watching a CGHOW video.
  • Today, I’m showing you how I created this stylized volcano effect in Unreal Engine 4.27 Niagara.
  • Let’s dive right into it!

Description of the Effect:

In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through creating a stylized volcano scene using UE4.27 Niagara. The scene includes:

  1. Volcano Model and Environment:
    • I used assets from previous tutorials for the volcano, fire, smoke, lava, and sparks.
    • These assets are inspired by previous tutorials like the Cartoon Explosion tutorial and Stylized Fire.
  2. Mesh and Material Setup:
    • The lava mesh was created in Maya with simple UVs and material setup.
    • The lava texture uses a radial exponent to animate and distort the lines.
    • Time and noise are added to create a dynamic, flowing effect.
    • A black body effect is used for emissive lighting.
  3. Fire and Smoke:
    • The main fire and smoke effect uses a sphere-distorted mesh with custom materials.
    • The material uses a gradient, dot product, and camera vector manipulation for edge distortion and glow effects.
    • Noise is used to erode the gradient, creating a more natural look.
    • The fire and smoke are animated with various settings like velocity, gravity, and drag.
  4. Sparks and Flames:
    • Sparks are taken from previous effects (stylized fire) and animated to move with the camera.
    • The flames are created using a noise texture and gradient, with controls for tile erosion speed and random strength.
  5. Camera Setup:
    • The camera is animated using Sequencer in Unreal Engine, with location and rotation keys.
    • A fade effect is applied to smoothly transition the camera in and out of the scene.

Detailed Steps:

  1. Fire and Smoke Material:
    • The smoke is created using a sphere mesh, with random velocity and drag to create an organic look.
    • I added noise textures for added detail and control over tiling per particle.
  2. Lava Falling Animation:
    • I animated the lava mesh using a radial exponent and sine wave with noise for distortion.
    • The texture simulates the movement of lava lines using time-based animation.
  3. Sparks and Amber:
    • Sparks are generated in a cone shape, with randomized spawn rates and gravity.
    • Amber particles are used to simulate falling fire embers.
  4. Bird Effect:
    • Added birds flying in the background as a final touch.
    • I used an animated 2×4 sub-UV texture to simulate bird movement.
    • The bird particles are controlled by velocity and drag settings to make them move quickly.

Final Touches:

  • The whole effect is created by combining the fire, smoke, lava, sparks, and birds.
  • You can download the project files from the link in the description for hands-on learning.
  • I hope this tutorial helped you understand how to create a dynamic volcano scene in Unreal Engine 4.27!

Outro:

  • Thanks for watching! If you found this tutorial helpful, don’t forget to subscribe to CGHOW for more tips and tricks.
  • Take care, and happy creating!

Key Points:

  • Assets Used: Previous assets from stylized fire, cartoon explosion.
  • Main Effect: Fire, smoke, falling lava, sparks, and birds.
  • Techniques: Radial exponent animation, noise manipulation, particle spawn randomization.
