UE5 | Emit Fluid from Texture & Use Texture Color for Fluid Effect in Unreal Engine 5.2

Intro:
Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali and you’re watching CGHOW. In today’s video, I will show you how to emit fluid from a texture and use the texture’s color to affect the fluid’s appearance. This is a cool technique that will give your fluid effects a more dynamic and realistic look. Let’s get started!

Main Tutorial:

  1. Preparation:
    • First, subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon for new notifications.
    • You can find this project file on my Patreon.
  2. Emitting Fluid:
    • Create a new Niagara FX using the fountain template.
    • Rename the emitter to Source Emitter.
    • Add a new emitter and select 3D Grid Master for fluid emission.
    • Make sure to turn off the default sphere source in the grid emitter’s sourcing section.
    • Set the source emitter to GPU, and configure the fluid gas to radius=10.
  3. Using Particle Color for Fluid:
    • In the fluid emitter settings, enable the fluid color to be sourced from particle colors. This allows the fluid to take the same color as the particle, including random colors if the particles are set to change color.
  4. Applying a Texture for Fluid Emission:
    • Isolate the particle emitter and delete unnecessary parameters like velocity or gravity.
    • Use a texture sample for emitting fluid, with a 2D texture applied.
    • Use UV coordinates (X and Y) from the particle location and scale them to tile the texture. Set up a flow plot for tiling and offsetting the texture.
  5. Adjusting the Fluid Appearance:
    • If your fluid is not appearing, check the bounding box settings to ensure it’s in the correct position.
    • Once the fluid is emitting from the texture, you can modify the emission to use the logo or shape of the texture itself (e.g., the Unreal Engine logo).
    • To eliminate the unwanted particles, apply a filter (e.g., red channel) and delete particles that don’t match the desired texture.
  6. Final Adjustments:
    • Apply color textures to make your fluid dynamic and colorful.
    • Adjust settings like dissipation to control how quickly the smoke dissipates.
    • You can even use color multiplication to intensify the fluid’s appearance.
