Video Script

Hi guys, so recently I received a message on my YouTube video. This viewer asked, β€œHow can you follow a tutorial when we do not have any texture? Without that texture, it’s useless.”

So basically, I provide my textures and all the effects on my Patreon, and most of the effects are available there. But if you’re not supporting me on Patreon, I have separate tutorials on creating textures. However, if you’re wondering how to create textures like the ones I use, I have a tutorial for that.

In Unreal Engine, I have these types of noise textures that I’ve created, and they’re all tileable. You can pan these to create cool trails and other magical effects. Let’s say you want to make this type of effect; I’ll show you how to do that in Photoshop.

Step-by-Step Tutorial in Photoshop:

  1. Start by Creating a New Canvas:
    • Create a 1K, 2K, or 4K square canvas. Set the background color to black (Ctrl + Backspace).
  2. Draw Random Patterns:
    • Select any brush, make it smaller, and draw randomly on the canvas. The drawing should be random, like this.
  3. Offset the Texture:
    • Go to Filter > Other > Offset. This will make the texture tileable. Keep offsetting until the texture is seamless.
  4. Fix Edge Issues:
    • If there’s an issue with the edge, fix it by connecting the edges and offsetting again.
  5. Blend the Gradient:
    • After drawing, use the Smudge Tool to blend the gradient. Make sure the center is sharp and highlighted, with a smooth fade to the edges.
  6. Final Adjustments:
    • Continue to offset, smudge, and adjust until the texture is completely tileable with no seams.
  7. Gaussian Blur:
    • Duplicate the layer (Ctrl + J) and apply a Gaussian blur for smoothing.
  8. Apply Minimum Filter:
    • Apply the Minimum filter to make the texture more interesting. Duplicate and apply it again to get the desired effect.
  9. Final Cleanup:
    • Use the Smudge Tool again to fix any remaining minor issues.

Now, the texture is ready for use in Unreal Engine.

Import the Texture into Unreal Engine:

  1. Create a Material:
    • Import the texture into Unreal Engine and create a new material.
  2. Manipulate Coordinates:
    • Use Vector to Radial to manipulate the coordinates and blend them together.
  3. Set Parameters:
    • Set parameters for X and Y tiling, and adjust for the desired effect. You can also adjust the Smooth Step to properly blend the texture.
  4. Test with Material Instance:
    • Create an instance of the material and adjust the parameters for different effects like radius and density.
  5. Add Color Variations:
    • Use Lerp and two color parameters to create color variations, like orange and purple for the core and outer parts of the texture.
  6. Adjust Speed and Tiling:
    • You can make adjustments to the panning speed, tiling, or add additional layers for more complexity.

Now you have a texture ready to use in Unreal Engine!

Thanks for watching, keep learning, and goodbye!
