Description
Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali, and welcome back to CGHOW! In today’s tutorial, we’ll be creating a basic effect, but with a twist—I’m going to show you a technique that may be new to you! This is not a super complex effect, but it has a unique implementation that we’ll explore in detail. Let’s dive in and learn something new today.
Key Points
- Creating a Basic Effect: We start with a simple particle setup and explore the use of mesh particles.
- Using the “Spawn Burst”: Instead of spawn rate, I used a spawn burst with a count of five particles, each having a lifespan of five seconds. This gives us more control over particle behavior.
- Ring Distribution: The particles are distributed randomly around a ring shape and linked to the execution index to manage overlap.
- Mesh and Orientation: I replaced the default sprite renderer with a mesh (cube) and adjusted its rotation to face the center. This allows for smooth, controlled rotations around the effect’s center.
- Adjusting Pivot and Scaling: To rotate the cubes from a specific pivot point, I offset the pivot in the mesh settings, then adjusted the position and scale of the particles to match.
- Glow Effect: I added glowing particles at the tips of the cubes for visual enhancement and synchronized their rotation with the cubes.
- Dynamic Particle Scaling: I added scaling curves for the mesh and shape radius to dynamically adjust the size of particles throughout the effect.
- Final Touches: The mesh color and material were customized for a unique visual look, and I used a basic color material to adjust the appearance of the cubes.

Additional Notes
This tutorial demonstrates a combination of particle systems and meshes to create a rotating and scaling effect with unique behavior. You’ll learn how to control particle behavior using different attributes like rotation, spawn bursts, and scaling curves. This approach is great for creating dynamic and visually appealing effects in your Unreal Engine projects.
