Video Title: “Create Basic Sword Effect in Unreal Engine 5.1 Niagara”
Introduction:
“Hi guys, I’m Ashif Ali and welcome to CGHOW. In today’s video, I’m going to create a very basic and simple sword effect in Unreal Engine 5.1 using Niagara. Let’s start the tutorial!”

Creating the Effect:
The tutorial begins with setting up the effect in Niagara.
Ashif uses a sword mesh from Quixel content and adds it to the scene, resizing it to make it more prominent.
A “rock” mesh is also added to the scene to act as a background for the sword.
Lighting and Scene Decoration:
The lighting in the scene is adjusted to focus on the sword. Ashif adds a spotlight and reduces the intensity to create the desired effect.
Adding Particle Effects:
To create the sword’s trails, Ashif uses Niagara to create a particle system.
A “fountain emitter” is created for spawning particles (ribbons) that will act as trails behind the sword.
Adjustments are made to the emitter’s settings: spawn rate, velocity, and shape location.
The ribbons are directed diagonally, with increased spawn rate and randomization applied.
Ashif adds a “curl noise” for more natural movement and adjusts other parameters, such as the ribbon’s size, life, and velocity.
Finalizing the Particle Effects:
A second emitter is used to create additional effects like sparks.
The particles are made to align with the sword’s movement, adjusting velocity and size to suit the desired look.
Ashif adds a glow effect to the sparks and adjusts the alpha and brightness.
Making Tweaks:
Ashif fine-tunes the look of the sparks, adjusting the brightness and the life span of the particles to match the sword’s movements.
The final effect is duplicated and positioned to create a more dynamic look.
Conclusion:
“So that’s the basic sword effect. You can add more elements, but I think this is a good start for a simple sword effect using Niagara. Thanks for watching, keep learning, and see you in the next one!”
