Here’s how I built the effect:

1. Sword Mesh Setup:
   • I started by creating a Sword Mesh with the pivot point set so that it rotates smoothly.
   • I connected a Niagara particle system to the sword and used a class blueprint to animate the sword’s rotation over 360 degrees with a timeline.
2. Glow Effect:
   • The sword has a dynamic material applied to it, which features a glow parameter. I animate this value to make the sword glow more or less.
   • The glow effect is linked to a Hue shift, which is driven by a Material Parameter Collection.
3. Color Control with Slider:
   • I used a widget blueprint with a slider to control the color shift of the sword and the particle effects. The slider changes the hue parameter, adjusting the sword’s and the particle system’s color in real-time.
4. Slash Effect:
   • The main slash effect consists of a disk mesh with a glowing material and a custom texture. The particles from this mesh appear with a cutting motion and then dissolve inward using dynamic parameters connected to the material.
   • I also tweaked the emissive and black parts of the material to make the glow more dynamic.
5. Sparks and Trail Effect:
   • I created sparks that emit in a trail following the sword’s motion, but unlike the slashes, the sparks don’t rotate with the sword; they’re emitted from the center.
   • For the material, I used a basic radial material with a hue shift for color control. I also used some curves to control the movement and size of the sparks, adding realism to the effect.
6. Final Adjustments:
   • I tested the effect and adjusted the spawn rate, velocity alignment, and other settings to achieve the perfect look. Each particle system (slash, sparks) is duplicated with minor changes in size and color for variety.
