hi guys today i have created this energy ball effect in unreal engine Niagara. for this i used a high res sphere from Maya for main element in this effect and i used noise node in material so you can see the setting of my noise for this cool looking pattern. i will also show you how i created textured used in this effect for trails and flash.

Video Description

Hello everyone! I’m Ashif Ali, and welcome to another tutorial on CGHOW. Today, I’ll guide you through creating a powerful Energy Ball Effect in Unreal Engine’s Niagara system. This effect includes a customizable color parameter that allows you to change the color scheme with ease, giving the energy ball a unique look in different contexts.

Tutorial Breakdown

1. Sphere Base Effect

  • Mesh & Material: Begin with a high-vertex mesh sphere (imported from Maya) to allow for detailed distortion.
  • Dynamic Parameters: Connect parameters for color, distortion, and rotation speed.
  • Key Settings:
    • Distortion: Controlled by a noise node within the material, achieving a scaling and rotating energy effect.
    • Color Change: Add a dynamic parameter that allows for real-time color adjustments by adjusting hue values.

2. Trail Effects

  • Mesh Type: Use an arc-shaped mesh to simulate trailing energy as the sphere moves.
  • Material Setup: Apply a texture with noise distortion to create a flickering and warping trail effect.
  • Parameter Controls:
    • Hue Shift: Integrated to give trails vibrant color shifts.
    • Trail Opacity and Size: Gradually fades over life, making trails look like dissipating energy.

3. Rays

  • Cross-Planner Mesh: Set up with a gradient material to produce light rays that pulse out from the energy ball.
  • Life Cycle Control: Animate ray spawning with a delay, adding dynamics as rays grow and fade out.
  • Color Control: Adjust parameters for a glowing, red-to-yellow gradient.

4. Flash and Sparks

  • Flash Effect: Add a flash at the end of the energy ball’s life cycle for a powerful burst of light.
  • Spark Particles: Include radial particles with random sizes and colors, animating their life to scatter them as the energy dissipates.
  • Timing and Sync: Use delays to sync the flash and spark effects with the energy ball’s destruction for maximum visual impact.

Key Points to Remember

  • Customizable Color: Use the hue parameter to easily adjust the entire color scheme.
  • Dynamic Rotation and Scaling: Add animation curves for the sphere’s rotation speed and size to give it a “charging up” feel.
  • High-Resolution Meshes: Ensure high-vertex meshes for detailed distortion.
  • Material Remapping: Use remap nodes for additional control over material properties like brightness and contrast.

Additional Notes

  • Explore using different mesh shapes or textures for unique energy styles.
  • Test the effect’s performance in real-time and tweak values accordingly to avoid lag in gameplay.

By following this setup, you’ll be able to craft a highly customizable energy ball effect that can be adapted to different gameplay scenarios. Happy creating!
