Unreal Engine Wood Shatter Tutorial

In this tutorial you will learn how to create Wood Shatter Effect in unreal engine. you will learn every step for this effect texture, materials, mesh and emitters.

Description:
In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to create a shattering effect in Unreal Engine, focusing on how to break objects into chunks and use the particle system to simulate the destruction. This effect includes burning chunks, flying splinters, and dust particles, all enhanced with dynamic parameters for realistic behaviors.

Breakdown:

  1. Shattering Object: Using Maya with the Pulldown plugin to shatter a food chunk into pieces.
  2. Particle Setup:
    • Full chunk disappears after 0.5s, emitting burning chunks with a delay.
    • Different-sized splinters emitted, along with dust variations.
    • Beam-like impact and spark effects.
  3. Material Design:
    • Fire and burn textures for chunks.
    • Dynamic parameters to control burn and erode effects.
  4. Collision & Sparks:
    • Particles interact with the ground, triggering additional effects like small sparks and flashes.
  5. Viewport Check:
    • The effect in action: Chunks burn, splinters fly, dust settles, and the beam impacts.

Tips for Customization:

  • Adjust the timing of your particle emitters to match the pace of destruction.
  • Experiment with different textures for varying materials (e.g., rock or wood).
  • Use dynamic parameters to control the progression of burning or eroding.
  • Add extra debris, smoke, or additional spark types based on your scene’s needs.
