Interactive Lightning in UE4.27 Niagara Tutorial | Download Files
hi guys today I have created interactive lighting fx in ue4 Niagara in this fx I have a lighting system that is connecting with the character leg from one side and the other side is hitting the ground around the leg. and I have slow debris, sparks, and smoke setup when lighting hits the ground.

Description: In this tutorial, Asif Ali walks through the creation of a dynamic lightning effect in Unreal Engine, where the lightning connects to a character’s legs and strikes the ground, generating sparks, debris, and smoke. Asif explains the entire process of setting up the lightning beam, adjusting parameters such as randomness, width, color, and spawn rates, and connecting it to a character’s bones using sockets. Additionally, he demonstrates how to spawn particles like sparks and debris at the end of the beam impact point and how to fine-tune their behavior. This tutorial offers insight into using Niagara’s particle systems to create realistic lightning effects with randomization and motion.

Key Notes:

  • Niagara Dynamic Beam: Used to create the lightning effect with customizable width, color, and randomness.
  • Sockets for Bone Connection: Attach lightning to the character’s legs using socket locations on bones like “right leg” and “left leg.”
  • Randomized Start and End Positions: Create a randomized lightning strike by adjusting X and Y positions while keeping Z constant for ground collision.
  • Jitter and Curl Noise: Applied to the beam to create jagged, lightning-like variations.
  • Sparks and Debris: Added at the lightning impact point with cone velocity for realistic scattering and collision with the ground.
  • Smoke and Particle Effects: Spawn smoke using random frames and create fading, scaling effects for realism.
  • Blueprint Integration: Use get socket location to link the lightning effect to the character’s movement, ensuring it follows the bone correctly.
  • Parameter Adjustments: Control beam life, width, spawn rate, and color dynamically using user parameters.
  • Offset for Randomness: Introduced random offset for more natural scattering of particles on impact.
  • Material Setup: Basic materials with additive color and glow settings for the lightning effect.
  • Tessellation Settings: Disabled for simplicity in this effect, focusing on randomness and particle generation.

Additional Notes:

  • This tutorial offers both basic and advanced steps, making it suitable for beginners and intermediate users of Unreal Engine 4.27.
  • The project file will be available for download on Asif Ali’s Patreon, allowing users to explore the effect and modify it further.
  • The randomization of particle effects (sparks, debris, and smoke) adds a level of unpredictability and realism that enhances the visual quality of the lightning strikes.
  • The tutorial emphasizes the importance of socket placements and how they control the behavior of the lightning, especially when the character moves.
